Are Mokkelbost – my partner in the Dausteg DJ concept has added a new plush looking Dausteg page to his spanking new website (click on image). It includes all the live sets we managed to record, plus photos, video footage and flyer/poster designs. Be sure to check out Are’s myriad other works whilst you’re there.

DAUSTEG: 04/10/2007 BLÅ, Oslo

An earlier Dausteg set stemming from the period when we were still named Deathstep. It dates from 4th October 2007 and followed an evening of concerts by Svarte Greiner, Kevin Drumm and Lasse Marhaug at Oslo’s BLÅ venue. It caused slight controversy at the time when Oli Marlow of  Sonic Router posted it on Dubstep Forum: “If I’ve never heard of Deathstep before, and I see it on a flyer, am I going to be able to call up my girl and say…hey..will you come out to the Deathstep night with me?”  I quickly and half jokingly came up with the name for our original nights at Spasibar, Oslo in 2006. Some US Breakcore/Industrial types had also used Deathstep for their noisy D&B events and have since claimed it as their own, they’re entirely welcome to it. Deathstep entered the Urban Dictionary in 2010 as  ‘A music genre based upon deathcore/death metal, remixed dubstep style’ – so nothing at all to do with us: We tended to prefer our metal of the Black and Doom variaties.

KILLL KILLL KILLL

KILLL the Norsk  ‘stroboscopic avant metal’ band which features my Dausteg partner in grime Are Mokkelbost, release their debut CD/DVD this week (15/12/2011) via the Fysisk Format label. The CD is essentially a soundtrack to the DVD, which does its best to capture the KILLL live experience for use in your own living room. You can read my attempt to sumarize the KILLL audio/visual sensory assault by clicking on the above image for a Frieze commisioned review of their 2009 concert at Norway’s Henie Onstad Arts Centre (unfortunately with broken images). A clip from the DVD lies below.
