Firmanent Rephlex Global Jack: Quirky #4
A Quirky flyer from September 1994 crammed with info for that month in an attempt to save on money, which we were no doubt hemorrhaging by that point. Although perhaps not one of the prettiest flyers visually, I’m still immensely proud of the artists we booked that Autumn: a very early appearance (if not the first) from experimental Junglists Spring Heel Jack (mispelt as Springhill Jack), Global Communication live, whole rooms given up to Robert Hampson‘s Main and Rephlex Records and DJ sets from Aphex Twin, Scanner, Mike Paridenas, Mark Clifford of Seefeel and Paul Schutze. As impressive as this line-up still looks today, I’ve little doubt that the event we would have garnered the most press for if any, was the ‘Techno Dub Jam’ featuring members of the Drum Club along with allstars from the Ambient/Progressive House scenes. Steve Hillage of Gong and System 7, would’ve seemed a far more impressive coup to the zeitgeist of that time than even perhaps Aphex. Below is a stand alone flyer for the Main Firmanent (regrettably mispelt as Firmenent) Room.
